It is well known that many Australian home owners are under insured. In fact, recent studies undertaken by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) found that between 27% and 81% of home owners were under insured. Further, the studies revealed that between 7.50% and 59% of home owners who insured their home building were insured for 70% or less of rebuilding costs. The contents of homes were rarely insured. The financial hardship caused by underinsurance is devastating.
